OK so Twitter...... what is the big fuss about it?Just in case you've been living under a rock for the past few years, (sort of like me) Twitter is the new way of telling everyone what you're doing.....all the time!!!! Gone are the days of only telling people what's important or something you find interesting...... Nope....... Now you can tell everyone EVERYTHING about what you're doing. From going for a walk, being bored in class, hating your homework or even changing you cat's kitty litter, it all gets posted. Or as the new lingo is, "Tweeted".
But apparently Twitter isn't just used for tweeting about the boring things in your life that no one really cares about. Now it is used for updating people about more important stuff than if you are unwrapping your chocolate bar..... now taking a bite.... and another.... and another..... and its all gone. yum yum!
Twitter today gets used for a lot more useful things for people. Companies are using it to promote their products, emergency services for updates in your area IE. a fire near you or a car accident; and even news stories being broken on twitter before anyone else hears about them and so much more!So turns out there is a bit more of a use for twitter than entertaining yourself because you're bored.
But what ever happened to stranger danger? Does that still exist in this new age of Social media? Or has that completely disappeared? Lets see if I can try and explain this nice and easy for people to understand......
Once upon a time there was this society that was told be careful of talking to people and meeting people that you don't know or don't think you should trust. The society functioned well and everyone got along... for the most part. Then one day a stranger came to town, named Social media. Social media didn't like how society didn't really talk to anyone apart from the people they actually knew, and so it created these networks where they could talk to each other to become friends. And then from there they could talk to anyone about anything they wanted, even if they didn't know them. At first people didn't like it so much, but then one by one they did, until before society knew it, social media had taken over them and made them completely different from who they actually were...... The end...... or is it???
Just because it appears safe doesn't mean it actually is. Is it just another way for people to connect and network with each other or can it also be used for something much worse than that? How do you know that the person you are tweeting to or following is safe or who they say they are? Do you really want to know the real person beneath the Social media mask?
